A 60-year-old man was reported to have died yesterday in Osun state after beating his own wife to death. The man, Rafiu Irawo is believed to have died of heart failure after the beating and gruesome murder of his own wife a few minutes later.

According to a Vanguard report, the 60-year-old man after beating his wife to death over allegation of infidelity was arrested and taken to the station where he later slumps and died.

Before their death

Before their death, it was gathered that the couple operated and managed a joint beer parlour business at Alokowe area of Ile-Ife in Osun state. The man, Rafiu Irawo was in charge of drinks and the wife manages the meat/food area of the business. The late wife sells assorted bush meats in joint.

According to reports, the late Mr Rafiu had accused his wife of having extramarital affairs with some of the customers patronising their shop, an accusation the wife denied.

The fateful day

On that fateful, Rafiu had caught the wife cheating and chased her with a cutlass and macheted her to death. The incident drew the attention of their neighbours who eventually called the police

Arrest and death

The man was later arrested by the police and then taken to the police station for interrogation, where he slumped and died a few minutes after arriving at the station. A police source, however, denied that the man did not die in their custody but at a hospital in the town where he was rushed to after he had slumbed
