The Cour D’Appel De Cotonou (Court of Appeal, Cotonou), Benin Republic, has ordered the authorities to release Sunday Igboho’s wife, Ropo. Sunday Igboho is the Yoruba Nation’s agitator and was arrested on Monday night while trying to flee from the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou, to Germany.
The Court hearing for his extradition was scheduled yesterday, Thursday 22nd of July. However, reports are that the court has ordered for the release of his wife. The court ruled that she be released as she did not commit any offence.
Igboho himself is still held in the custody of the Brigade Criminelle (crime squad) in Cotonou, Benin Republic and the court, adjourned the hearing to today, Friday 23rd of July.
Ropo was immediately set free yesterday following the order. This was confirmed in a report by The Punch who was told by the National Chairman of Ilana Omo Oodua, Prof Wale Adeniran.
After the court hearing yesterday, Igboho’s lawyer, Yomi Aliyu (SAN), did not address the questions of the journalists present. He only noted to them that, “this is not the best time to say anything on the case.”
