A 15-year-old girl, Daphne Kimuli, has reportedly committed suicide over poor performance in her Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
The incident occurred at Bwikya Muslim Primary School in Hoima City in Western Ugandan.
The relatives told the journalists that the teenagee disappeared from home three days ago after the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) released the results of last year’s PLE in which the deceased scored aggregate 25.
The Albertine regional police spokesman, Mr Julius Hakiza, stated that the girl’s body was found hanging on a jackfruit near her home in Bwikya, Hoima East Division. It was the neighbors that alerted them.
Mr Hakiza told Daily Monitor UG,
“The scene was photographed and postmortem has been done.
She also claimed that there were people laughing at her for performing poorly in PLE.”
He went further to advise children and relatives to never consider suicide as an option as there was more to life.
The suicide note was produced by one of the two suspects in the case. In the note, she wrote that she was leaving her enemies “to enjoy their world as she was going somewhere else.”
May her soul rest in peace.
