A 74-year-old Indian woman has shocked the world after giving birth to twin babies in India. The woman who have been married to her husband for 57 years without a child, found her joy after she was able to give birth for the first time after such a long wait.
Hospital head Dr. Sanakkayala Umasankar announced that the mother and her two baby girls are doing well.
Mangayamma’s husband Raja Rao, 78, is so thrilled to have become a father at this age.
Married for 57 years, Raja Rao mangayamma couple did not have children, though they had tried all means suggested by every concerned relative and friend.
“I thought we would breathe our last without having children. But, a woman in our neighborhood conceived and delivered a baby at her 55. She told me it is possible to conceive through IVF technology. I proposed and my husband agreed,” a very happy Mangayamma said.
The fertility process started when Mangayamma approached fertility specialist Dr Umasankar in November last year. The doctor was surprised to listen to her desire but was happy that one of the rarest of rare cases had come up as a challenge for him.
Since Mangaamma attained menopause almost thirty years ago, he suggested that she can bear through IVF, with an egg from another woman and sperm from her husband. She agreed.
The doctors said it was possible as she had no blood pressure and sugar complaints and was keeping normal health. The doctors began the process in November – December. The process was successful in the first cycle itself. She conceived in January.
The doctors advised the couple to stay in the hospital as she needs close monitoring by multiple specialists including ranging from a gynecologist, cardiologist, pulmonologist, nutritionist and other doctors.
During the course of assessing the progress inside the womb, doctors found that Mangayamma was carrying twins. On Thursday (September 5), the doctors performed cesarean as normal delivery is not advisable for her age.
